4 Scientifically Studied Wavelengths
RED - 630nm
Reaches 2–3mm · The everyday mode
The most researched wavelength in LED skincare, and the one to use if you only ever use one. Red light complements collagen-focused routines and products targeting the appearance of fine lines.
Best for: Everyday use, dull-looking skin, routines aimed at firmness and smoother-looking texture, maintenance between facials.
When to run it: Three to five evenings a week. This is your baseline, build the other modes around it.
BLUE - 460nm
Reaches under 1mm · The breakout mode
Blue light is absorbed by porphyrins produced by acne-associated bacteria on the skin surface. Supports routines designed for clearer-looking skin.
Best for: Breakout-prone weeks, congested or oily areas, the run-up to a hormonal flare.
When to run it: Alternate with red during a breakout period rather than replacing red entirely. Blue works at the surface; red works deeper.
Why 460nm and not 415nm: 415nm sits on the peak absorption band but penetrates barely 0.3–1mm and is heavily absorbed by melanin, making it far less effective on deeper skin tones. 460nm reaches further and performs consistently across Fitzpatrick types III to VI.
YELLOW - 590nm
Reaches 0.5–2mm · The calming mode
The gentlest of the four. Supports soothing routines and a more even-looking complexion.
Best for: Skin that feels reactive, warm or sensitised, after sun exposure, long-haul travel, a hard training block, or a strong active in your routine.
When to run it: As a recovery session. Swap it in for red on days when your skin feels like it needs a break rather than a push.
NEAR-INFRARED - 850nm
Reaches 5–10mm · The invisible layer
You will barely see it working. Near-infrared passes deeper than any visible wavelength, through to the reticular dermis, and can run on its own or stacked underneath red, blue or yellow.
Best for: Adding depth to any session without extending its length. Also the mode to use if you want a session in a dark room without bright light in your eyes.
When to run it: Toggle it on alongside whichever visible mode you are already using. It does not replace them — it sits under them.

69%
of participants showed improvement in fine lines and wrinkles
Randomised controlled trial, 128 participants, red light at 611–650nm, twice weekly for 30 sessions. Collagen density rose and skin roughness fell significantly against the control group.
86%
improved by at least one acne grade using blue and red light
Seven-week study, 30 participants, blue with red light, ten minutes four times weekly. Both inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions fell significantly.
50–60%
reduction in inflammatory acne lesions reported across blue light studies

Recovery, For Your Skin
Your body gets twenty minutes of recovery after training. Your skin gets nothing. The KINETTIK Mask fits into the part of the evening you are already wasting, lying down, winding down, doing nothing in particular. Put it on, set the timer, and let it work while you do not.
FAQ
Got Questions? We’ve Got the Answers
Which mode should I actually use?
Red at 630nm is the everyday default and has the strongest research behind it. Add blue during breakout-prone weeks. Use yellow when skin feels reactive or you want a gentler session. Near-infrared can run underneath any of them for deeper light exposure. If you are unsure, start with red only, three times a week, and add from there.
Why 460nm blue instead of 415nm?
415nm sits on the strongest absorption peak for the porphyrins produced by acne-associated bacteria, but it barely penetrates — roughly 0.3 to 1mm — and melanin absorbs a large share of it before it reaches the follicle. That makes it markedly less effective on deeper skin tones. 460nm penetrates further, delivers more optical power, and still sits within the porphyrin absorption range. For a country where most customers have Fitzpatrick type III to VI skin, it is the more sensible engineering choice.
How often should I use it, and for how long?
Three to five sessions a week of ten to twenty minutes suits most people, which matches the protocols used in published studies. More is not better — leave at least a day between sessions when you are starting out. The mask switches itself off when the timer ends.
How soon will I see a difference?
Light therapy is cumulative, not instant — treat it like training rather than a treatment. The published trials that showed measurable change ran for seven to fifteen weeks of consistent use before assessing results. Expect to give it a couple of months of regular short sessions. If you want an overnight change, this is not that product.
Does it hurt or heat up?
No. LED light therapy is non-thermal and non-abrasive — you will feel gentle warmth at most, and nothing touches or abrades the skin. Begin on the lowest of the three intensity levels and work up as you get used to it.
Do I have to use the eye protection?
Keep your eyes closed throughout, or use the supplied eye inserts. Never look directly into the LEDs. If bright light bothers you, use the inserts every session.
Can I use it with my existing skincare?
Yes, but run the mask on clean, bare skin first and apply serums and moisturiser afterwards. Anything sitting on the surface — makeup, sunscreen, oils, actives — blocks light from reaching the skin. If you use retinoids or acids, introduce the mask gradually and watch for sensitivity.
Is it safe for sensitive or darker skin?
LED phototherapy does not rely on heat or pigment targeting, so it is generally suitable across skin tones — unlike some laser treatments. Start at the lowest intensity with shorter sessions. Do not use it over broken, burned, infected or severely irritated skin, and read the full safety notes on this page.
What if something goes wrong with the KINETTIK Mask?
The mask carries a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Emailhello@kinettik.comwith your order number, a short description and photos or video where relevant. We are a South African company and you deal with us directly.
How many sessions do I get from one charge?
Roughly six to twelve, depending on how long you run each one and at what intensity. The 3000mAh controller gives up to two hours of total operating time, so at ten-minute sessions you will get close to twelve, and at twenty minutes closer to six. For most people using it three to five times a week, that is one charge every one to three weeks. A full recharge takes about four to five hours, so it is worth plugging in overnight rather than waiting for it.
Is it actually cordless, or does something plug in?
There is no cable to the wall — that is the part that matters. The mask itself connects by a short cable to a handheld smart controller, which holds the rechargeable battery and the buttons for mode, intensity and timer. So you can use it lying on the couch or in bed without being tethered to a plug point, but the controller does sit in your hand or beside you during the session.
